Vancouver amp wizard?

Anyone know the amp repairman who is the go-to guy in Vancouver and how to contact him? He's a Chinese man, whose name may be Mr. Ho.

Specializes in old gear.

I know him. He's on Kingsway a couple blocks down from Boundary Road. The name of his shop is Ho's electronics. To be honest I wouldnt go back to him. I brought my amp for repair and he lost the screws. He claimed that they werent in the amp when I brought it in. Why would I transport an expensive amp without the screws? I know they were in there but I wasnt going to argue with him. He also complains alot. Doesnt like repairing stuff if there's too many wires under the hood. To top it off I spent $135 to get the amp fixed and he never fixed the problem. Just my experience. Others such as Smash, have had good service from him.

The place I highly recommend is Backline. They are on Frances street off of Clark and Venebales. Very professional. Fixed my amp no problem for a reasonable price. Long & McQuade sends their repairs out to Backline. That gives you an indication of how good they are.

The guy's name is Yukon Ho and he operates Ho's Electronics on Kingsway near Boundary Road. He's an odd duck but tons of guitarists and bass players use his services. He's worked on my SWR and has done lots of work for the two guitarists in my band.

Can't comment on Backline, but the fact that L&M use them doesn't inspire me in particular.

Another guy I've used succesfully is Jeff Fisher, Van Studio Tech, in Coquitlam: 604-931-1601.

I took a Furman Power Conditioner and an HBB Tube Compressor to Backline for repairs: found them to be quick, cheap, and effective. Worked for me. Tom Lee also uses Backline for their repairs (at least that is where I got their info from).

Backline has been good to me as well Mr Ho really only wants to work on tube amps apparantly and is more enthusiastic about working on them...
