Vapid Super Bowl Performance

You are missing his point. He wasn't demanding recognition or claiming to have anything to do with those songs. He was stating that even these moldy, oldies are still in rotation - either the originals or remakes. My 11 year old knows this. @Richie Se7en is absolutely right. Young people that are young enough to be the grandchildren or great-grandchildren of the listed artists are digging them.

They're in rotation - sure. But rock music is dead or dying and most of those artists he mentioned probably won't be talked about very much in 50 years' time.

Ok. I'm gonna say it. Who the Hell is the Weekend? I am surprised when I woke up today and checked and no one else is talking about the Super Bowl Halftime extravaganza on TB.

I won't outright say it sucked. I mean I guess people like that form of vapid, blech and I won't question the man's talent. Definitely something that I would not buy into. I guess he is following in a long series of poor Super Bowl Halftime shows.

I think the Joan Jett / Miley Cyrus Pregame performance was better and at least authentic.

What did you think?
Actually his name is the Weeknd. The Weekend is a different band. He’s a 30 year old ex druggie who got his act together. Born in Canada. He gave away condoms at his One sponsored shows.

Seems a lot of people relate to him. Not me, but damn, I’m still playing jazz and classical lol.

Dang! That is a pretty wild prediction. Good luck on that. People are still creaming their jeans over that stuff, and for good reason. It was legit.

I guess you've got a point. I saw a kid walking down the street in a Rudy Vallee t-shirt the other day. The stuff people "cream their jeans over" never gets forgotten and is ever-popular.

OK, why did he do it?
I'd guess that BS actually feels like he is a part of deep rooted Americana. Who am I to question that? I have never lived in the heartland. I'll let them speak for themselves.

I don't ever think of that guy as a sellout or inauthentic. Not that I am a fan or even own any of his records. My band covers Glory Days and I sing lead. Freaking hard on my vocal cords!!!! I respect.

I haven’t seen the ad, don’t need to, don’t care what he says “now”. He’s said enough in the recent past to tell me all I need to know. He’s NOT from the heartland, no matter how much $$ he spends to pretend he is.

Springsteen’s heartland is fictitious. I grew up in the Midwest. Bruce grew up in New Jersey. From what I’ve heard from people who knew him, he was more out for fame than for money, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t want to make a buck at it.

There are more Rudy Vallee t-shirts in my neighborhood than Ramones ones! Also I tried to talk to some of the gang kids about Dave Chappelle, but all they wanted to talk about was old Will Rogers!

One down, two to go. Only Tom Waits and Neil Young remain unbought (and me, of course :))

I guess everyone has already forgotten about this. ;)
