Double Bass varnish question

I begin with eggwhite, then potassium dichromate, then start applying the oil varnish mix from 1 to 7 coats depending on the instrument.

Potassium Dichromate is deadly stuff. There are safer methods available for coloring wood, especially on a musical instruments which will get handled a lot.

but, once it's varnished, hazard mitigated, no?

I'm wondering what he did with the egg-yolks. You need a lot of egg white to seal a bass.
