Couldn't help weighing in...

Looks like this thread has been dead for a while, but here goes.

I helped develop these pedals, and am the current builder. That is a particularly dirty gut shot IMHO, and they generally look way nicer. Maybe I'll post a pic of a current model.
We definitely recommend a full frequency, powerful amplifier to compliment the Big Spider; through anything else it will sound anemic since it produces a lower octave that some amps can't reproduce. Good choices are an SVT or Meatsmoke.

We have carefully selected the transistors for every stage in order to maximize what we like about the pedal; specifically the octave effect. There aren't trim pots in them anymore.
