After spending a significant amount of time on TalkBass and various review sites I picked up a Sparkle Drive to serve as my over drive. I just started introducing overdrive into my sound with a few of my bands songs and was pushing the tubes in my GK Fusion 800, until my amp started telling me not too. I was pushing things too hard. So, I tried a couple other pedals such as a Rat and an MXR M85. Both of those were a little to distorted for my taste and the Rat cut the low end quite a bit. The MXR controls were a bit confusing as there is no dedicated volume control, it is done by the wet/dry knobs. I just didn't dig it. The Rat was great but cut my lows. Too much distortion as well for what I need. Killer pedal though.
First jam with it yesterday and I couldn't be happier. I was not looking for a crazy amount of overdrive so it works well for me. I highly recommend this pedal. Its not the MOD version but there are 0 available in Canada and I couldn't wait. Picked mine up used for 100 bucks in a locally owned shop (support local).
I play through a 2000 Mexi Jazz with Quarter Pounds-Bass Preacher compressor/sustain- Korg tuner- GK Fusion 800 - Traynor 4 ohm 4-12 3/4 Fridge. So far so good. I have some dialling in to do but that part of the fun.
I think I am good for a while.....hahaha
First rig upgrade in a while.
Wait, now I need to make a DIY pedal board!!!
BASS!!!
