Just heard that Vic Juris just passed....from his Facebook page
"This is Dave Stryker on Vic's page. I am sorry to report that Vic Juris passed away this morning. Vic will live on through his music, as a beautiful person and through his many students. Information on arrangements will follow."

That is sad news indeed. Vic was one of the all time greats. I remember seeing him with Dave Liebman's quartet at the U some years back, and marveling at his tasteful use of effects and guitar tone in this setting - it was like a masterclass on how such a thing should be done, and unexpected as I only knew him as a "straight ahead" player before that. RIP.

We had a casual acquaintance from the New School, me playing for various students' sophomore juries, Vic being an adjudicator for a number of them. Just a relaxed, easy going guy and then you hear him play and he can burn with the best of them. a real loss for the music and mankind in general...
