Vic or Rocco?

well, since i had a date with me, i figured musically, she might dig TOP more. So we went to see Rocco.
Like Samuel Adams, always a good choice.
I have caught the TOP set several times, but it is never tiring. It took a couple of tunes for the mix to come together, which is strange because they did 3 nights at the same venue. But once it did, the place was bumpin' !
Didn't get to talk to Rocco this time, but he sounded awesome. His tone a little brighter than usual due to his signature Conklin.
I have to catch Vic next time... it just happened to be my only night off and i HAD to give it up to the funk!

Thats a tough call on who I'd see.

Both are top notch. I'd probably have to go see TOP. Bela Fleck and the Flecktones are good and get get down right funky, but they dont funk things up the way TOP does. Much like you, I can only handle so much jazz banjo in one night.

Something about TOP makes me shake my ass more than Bela does when listening to their music. Oh yeah, most importantly, Rocco is a bigger influance than Vic is to me. :bassist:

Tough one! If you've never seen Victor live then I'd go see him.
I would go see Rocco because I haven't seen him in a couple of years and I caught Victor in Milwaukee last year.
Which ticket is less expensive?
The good news is you can't lose either way.

I saw TOP live about a month ago and I don't think I will go see them again. Vic is the man and I have seen the Flecktones three times. All of those times were good, one of those times was amazing beyond words. TOP is a good band but I feel like I get just about as much out of the CD as seeing them live. :hiding: To each his/her own.

i would have to go see rocco, i'm also a trumpet player, so checking out the horns would be nice too.

vic checked out my friend's band the other night after his show in San Antonio, too bad i missed it. vic just went up and introduced himself and told them they sound great - vic is a class act! :)

Yeah, last time I talked to him he was telling me how he just wanted to go out and play without all the attention that he always gets. That wouldn't surprise me.

Oh, and IMO Vic = Lemmy = God :hyper:

I'd have to go see Vic, if I were in this situation. The man's music pulled me through a point when I just couldn't see what a great instrument bass was. The guy really is a force of nature, and seeing him with the rest of the Flecktones would be jaw-droppingly good. Not to mention I know about ten people that would wet their pants at even the thought of seeing him live. Great show, that'd be.

When Victor got married awhile back, he spent his honymoon here, and just jammed around town. Very humble & nice guy, as well as being such a monster player.

I think it's kind of funny this has come down to a Victor vs Rocco thread. I really don't think that was Adrian's main question. The importance of both players in bass history is beyond reproach.

Hmmm...I don't know about that. I have Rocco's video and I'll check to corroborate your statement but I don't think that's true. The way he plays, that'd be hard to to play with one finger fretting. Listen to "What Is Hip"! There's a run where he plays octaves. Ain't no way he's doing that with just one fretting finger! IMO of course but I'm gonna check my video.
