Double Bass Victor Wooten on acoustic - what do you think?

Vic played cello in High School (ever wonder where Classical Thump came from? It's Bach's Cello Suite #1's Prelude with double thumbing). There's another clip of him and Edgar Meyer playing the same upright-hysterical! :D

You guys are getting ready to get totally slammed with snow as well according to Headline News. It's not so bad here-we'll get the leftovers of the system.
I stop by the Bass and Nature Camps pretty often-have our paths crossed there?

Naw, I don't think so. I'm a jazzer uprighter old guy.
I'm known around TB for messing with slabbers, but that's fun and BS stuff.
Victor is one of my heroes on the instrument. I've been pedaling "The Music Lesson" around here to all the players. I use those concepts in my teaching and life in general every day.
You know Jim Ferguson down there?

Jim's a good friend of mine. He does all of my upright and electric upright setup and repair.
+1 on The Music Lesson. I have put that in the hands of a lot of students and a lot of non-musicians, too. It radically remade how I teach and play, too. Between Vic and Francois Rabbath I've really been going through some changes (in a good way).
Checked out your interview about Philly Joe Jones and Bill Evans. Man, what a magnificent experience! :)
You should try to get to Nashville and hang at one of the Camps-it's really a great experience.

Do me a favor and give Jim my best and highest props. His mentor was my mentor too...the wonderful Red Mitchell. I'm kind of the go-to guy on all things "Red" around here.
Also, hooked up with Jim White, the drummer that Jim's fond of as well. He's here in Colorado now and I have some stuff to offer him down here in Denver soon.
The Victor book has changed my life in many ways. I used to be not too fond of "teaching" because I'm self taught, After the book I now do what I do to help "show" players of every instrument, including vocalists, how to open up and let the music flow. Great fun in living and playing. A real giggle for me and them.

Will do :). Jim is a great drummer. A good friend of mine from Belmont is up there getting his Doctorate. His name is Bruce Dudley and he's an amazing Jazz pianist. I hope you get a chance to play with him while he's there.
That's a great book-there were a few sections that made me tear up and cry on the first read. Very profound stuff!

Probably might be more appropriate to do this in a PM, but the other guys may get something out of this.
That book, as Victor says, is about stuff I always knew.
I didn't have to deal with those teachers, growing up in my era,
who really were more territorial and egotistical than today. The one bass lesson I did take turned me off so much it gave me motivation to just go directly to the music I heard.
I've heard that the book is having a great impact on teaching, as you've alluded to in your own experience with it. A solid combinaton of good teaching methods and those concepts in the book are invaluable, IMO.
