I believe the technique refers to a slap move where you use your thumb to hit down and up strokes on a string (as if you were using a pick). It's way beyond my reach....

Interesting. I do use a down stroke thumb if I want a really soft attack. I can't quite imagine an up stroke, but I'll have to look into that more.

Can't watch, hurts to look at. I'd have to break my thumb and have it reset at a 90 degree angle to practice this technique apparently.
