I know I'm talking very different beasts here, but the two different sellers are asking exactly the same price, and both appeal to me.
This will be my first bass. I've played guitar for years, and recently have found myself stealing our bass player's unit more and more. Time to take the plunge - he'll be happy!
(I've been getting a little more sophisticated in laying down draft song ideas on my own and figured the time had come to include real bass tracks -- however low-skilled they might be!).
Besides, bass guitars and bass players are way cool ...maybe some of it will rub off on me!

Here's what I'm looking at ...both are local and used.
1. Fender Lyte Precision. 1985 Made in Japan. Looks to be in very good shape.
2. ESP Viper 404. 2007, like new.
I've got an early 90's MIJ Fender Tele. It has better tone than a late model MIA Fender Custom Shop Tele I have. Wonderfully made instruments.
The ESP I know very little about. There seems to be some love for them on the Forum. Made in Korea, I guess? I really like the look and am leaning that way on the assumption that the modern electronics may make the ESP more versatile?
(btw, I play a wide variety of stuff, but stop short of real high-gain metal thrash stuff ...you know what I mean....)
thx!
