Throw it in the bin and buy a CD!

Spin the platter to speed it up.

...and keep doing it for the length of that side.

check the condition it is in. Sometimes i hear problems of static as well as dust and grime and such on them. maybe try to clean it up a little.

There are different play speeds for records, 45 and 33 being the more common, im assuming its on 33, so try moving it to 45 and see if that helps. Would be wierd for a record to be one speed on one side, and another on the other, but you did get wierd things like that!

One I always remember, I think it was a monty python LP, maybe derek and clive, but side A was normal, then on side B there were two tracks running parallel (apparently a nightmare to cut). And depending on which track the needle was in on side B, you would get one of two totally different things (one was the continuation of side A, the other was a made up botony program IIRC).

Check the hole in the middle is wide enough that it's not gripping onto the pin thing that sticks up in the middle of the turntable (it's been a few years since I cared what the bits are called)

I've never heard of any (mainstream) records playing at two different speeds per side, but it is technically possible.

Switch your turntable from 33rpm to 45.

Vinyl was rubbish, I agree. Looked good, but sounded terrible after a few years unless you spent ages wiping down the records and handling them carefully.

I actually knew a guy who would put on white cotton gloves to play records, so he could listen to how good his gold plated cables were.

Vinyl was awesome I never was alive when it was used but i can tell the better sound and good feel of the surface noise by playing one.

I found the original case to Sgt Peppers in my garage but it had rappers delight in it

I've got a collection of vinyl LP's about 14" thick. All METAL with some classic Detroit rock like Uncle Ted, the Coop, Rockin Robert Seger... and tons of imported power metal. Heh heh.

I do like vinyl, but agree, CD is better, people cant even pull the "vinyl sound better because they are analogue" argument anymore either, as its all recorded digitally and the information is usually sent via CD for getting cut!

However, it was a pretty cool use of the way it worked, something you couldnt do on a CD.

Also, love my Ghostbusters vinyl, glow in the dark picture disc, ooohhh yes

A friend of mine reckons that original vinyls are better than modern CD. I proceeded to tell him thats a load of rubbish. But he reckoned that how a lot of the older stuff is transfered to CD is a half assed and doesn't sound as good as the original. He might of said something about mastering as well. I don't know. He'd probably agree that modern vinyls aren't much better than the same CD

Although if I was releasing a record on vinyl ideally I would have it mastered a bit differently so that it would sound the way someone who collects vinyls thinks they should sound. Why not even throw in some extra hiss and pops and what nots. As an analogy if I were to create a 4x10 and 1x15 cabinet. I would design the 15 to have more lows or less highs or both than the 4x10 because thats what the buyer wants to hear. Even though they could be designed to sound reasonably the same or even opposite with the 4x10 with more lows.

Check your turntable. it's not spinning at the right speed. Might very well be a problem with the drive belt or capstan.

Another advantage of CDs. I don't think I've played any of my vinyl in 15 years except as a curiosity for my daughters.

The biggest problem with early CDs is that engineers EQ'd them the same as vinyl, and that messes them up badly. Now that sound engineers understand how to EQ recordings for CD, those problems are pretty much gone.

Hi.

It might be possible that the LP You have has a Maxi as the side B. When You look at the grooves, do they look similar or is the ones on the B side wider and with fewer separating spaces?

The B side should be labelled as 45 though if that was the case.

Or You have a valuable misprint in your hands . (those are quite common though)

You can check it by googling the code at the end of the grooves, near the label.

Well, it turned out that the hole(forgive me if it's the wrong word) has been worn out so it wasn't gripping the spindle. So I got 4 little cotton pads and put them underneath the record. I can now hear music!
