Visiting London in Sep, tips and greets?

That (meeting at and seeing the British Museum) sounds great. Late morning (like 11 am)? We can figure out details via PM.

I know I already mentioned this company in the thread linked in the OP, but it's worth mentioning here that the London Walks people offer a guided tour of that museum several days a week--and I expect there's a group rate (as there was when I did their Tower of London tour), which means that in effect, you only pay a couple pounds for the guide. I guess Solo In Soho(thanks Phil Lynott) is out of the question.

Glad to have spent 2 weeks in London in the mid 80's when, IMO, it was much safer. Got a Tube Pass and used their version of "cabs" espsecially after a long night in Soho. What was most unique about that night was noticing an "undercover" police lady following me around for about 4 hours "trying hard not to be seen". I'd seen her on some BBC show earlier that week so her face jumped out at me.Also, changed to only eating at Burger King after my 2 travel companions got food poisoning at "an upscale eatery"....from the blue cheese dressing and another item that was used as a dressing. Glad I didn't eat that stuff.

Mostly went to the museums and historical places plus actually located the location of where an electrical engineering(self-taught) genius lived although his home was no longer there, one Oliver Heaviside(Oliver Heaviside - Wikipedia ). The guy who turned Maxwell's nightmare equations into algebra.

I don't think I'll have decent phone coverage when I'm in London (I currently have the cheapo MetroPCS).

Would it be a good idea to get a pre-paid phone when I'm there? Or would I be fine relying on wi-fi being everywhere, and thus able to use texting and messaging on my current phone (but no phone calls)?

We were there this summer.

1) The taxi drivers REALLY know their stuff.
2) It's a great place for walking.

It's the Tannoy announcement, and painted advice on the platforms of the underground stations (The Tube).
There's a gap between the carriage door and the platform.

If the gap is wide enough to drop a bass in a case through, there could be cause for concern.

When we were there, we just used free wi-fi in the hotel. Or we'd duck into a Starbucks or other similar business to use theirs. Wi-fi is just as widespread there as it is here, but it definitely helps to have access to data for Google Maps alone. I'd check first to see if MetroPCS offers any temporary international travel plans.
