Double Bass Volume Control

So,

I am new to double bass pickups and I just bought a K & K pickup (Bass Max) from Gollihur which I love. Unfortunately I need a volume control which is close to my reach for adjustment (the amp is too far back to get to quickly). No volume control on this pickup :-(

I tried a Fishman pre-amp box, but it was too big, heavy, clunky- just too much for me. I don't want EQ, I just want quick, simple volume control on, or near my Bass.

Anyone have any ideas? Cheap would be good, but i'm willing to spend if need be. Should be small, light durable, easy to change volume, but not by accident.

All opinions/suggestions welcome!

Sounds like fdeck's preamp was made for you -- small, simple, inexpensive, has an adjustable high pass filter (very, very useful) as well as a volume control. Scads of positive reviews on this forum.

(In case you haven't come across him here, search for fdeck in the members list and PM him).

I've owned an Underwoods, Realists, and an Upton Revolution Solo. None of those pickups have volume controls. My Ehrlund does have one and now I wouldn't be without it.

The HPF/Buffer Pre Amp is a great little box and very affordable. Here's a link to Francis' website.

I have a Rob Allen custom electric bass with a mag pickup wired directly to the output jack - no volume or tone controls. I considered having it modified to add a volume control, but then I stumbled on to this cable with a volume control built in:

Google "Taylor V-Cable" for info and where to buy.

I haven't tried the cable with my double bass though. I use the FDeck HPF-Pre that others have already recommended.
