volume pedals

Which ones would be recommended and which ones should i avoid?

I'm thinking it's about time i have one in my board.

(And, yes, i tried the search function. With the keywords 'volume' and 'pedal', the result is basically every thread on the effects forum. )

I like my volume pedals to be small (or at least take up minimal space), passive (no batteries to die, or power supplies to plug in please), relatively inexpensive (I'm not shelling out $200+ for a Hilton or Goodrich anytime soon...), and as easy to repair as possible (especially if I can do it myself).

My personal favorite is, was, and will remain the Ernie Ball Volume Pedal Jr.
It's fairly small compared to most other volume pedals, requires no batteries, has two versions that work with active or passive instruments, doesn't cost very much (especially if you find a "broken" one for sale), and is incredibly easy to repair if you need to (or if you buy a broken one).

i bought it thinking i could use it for an expression pedal for an M9, but found out i needed the 25K (6181)!

I like the Boss FV-500L.

Tonally transparent volume control, exp pedal capabilities, and built to withstand a nuclear blast. Costs about the same as the EBVP.

The H version is only useful if you don't own any buffered pedals and have only passive basses.

I have a musicman stingray which is an active bass. I am getting confused with which EBVP pedal I need to get? Can someone help?

You'll want the 25k one for active.

That said, I have a cheap-o volume pedal on my board that's 250k, and it works fine with my active bass; good sweep and no volume drop.

I have a Morley Little Alligator....no noise, adjustable vol. it does use a 9v battery but it lasts for a very long time as it only powers 3 leds.

Just got the Dunlop one. Used the Ernie Ball before as well. The Dunlop is very very smooth and built like a freaking tank.

I just got the Dunlop DVP1 as well.. it's huge and on the heavy side, but yeah, built like a tank. It's completely passive, smooth as butter, and you can adjust the tension on the rocker, which is pretty cool. Also, thumbs up for the separate out for a tuner (I'm amazed that not all volume pedals have this).

It is big though, if space is an issue you might want to pass this one by.

oh.. and it works perfectly for both passive and active electronics.

I took mine apart to see the new steel band system that is in it. The system is still has a pot and the steel bands make contact as it rotates. It's a nice system. It's simplistic and doesn't need a spring or string to make it work which is a plus.
