When you run a whole bunch of effect and stomp box on the board how do you adjust the volume?

Lets take it all the volume on the pedal is flat (12 o'clock pos)

When you need more volume, do you adjust the level on the pedal or you just turn the volume on the amp to change?

Cos i don't want to damage or blow anything on the amp by turning the level on the pedal to drive the amp to high volume.

I saw a great band on thursday that used a mini amp pedal. basically, off it's just letting signal pass through, and on, it tweaks the volume up a tiny bit. It worked so well for them being a prog-rock sorta thing, so they'd have really mellowed out verses, but in the chorus be so powerful! look into it, i think they're quite cheap!

First, there is absolutely no way to damage your amp with high gain input from an effect pedal. The only way damage could occur from a high signal level is if we were talking about plugging something ridiculous like a power amp into the input of your amp. You have to be a bit careful with speakers (depending on everything in your rig including your playing style) but as long as the speakers aren't themselves buzzing or flapping, they're fine.

As far as changing your volume levels, there are lots of ways:
-Adjust your playing intensity (with fingers)
-Adjust the volume knob on the bass
-"Clean boost" pedal (stomp on/off for two set signal levels)
-Volume pedal (treadle control for infinite range btwn loudest and quietest)
-Any FX pedal that has a level control
-Adjust the input gain on the amp
-Adjust the output level on the amp
-Wave "thumb up" and "thumb down" to the soundman while pointing at your monitor speaker
