Ok, I'd agree with you there. heheh. Though, I find my DB750 anything but "slow" in response. Remember, it's a hybrid amp. Then again, I doubt I have ever played a song at 220BPM. I don't even think that fast heheh.

Anyway, if you're talking solid state why not just go for a Thunderfunk or Epifani UL502? I really dug both of those last time I was at the local shop.

If you are trying to compete with two Marshall Full stacks, your only option is multiple heads, or a preamp/poweramp setup with something like a Crest CA9. Perhaps a better question would be, why are your guitards using full stacks? You playing stadiums, or do they have small dinkies?

Seems to me for those gigs you only need a rig that can keep up with the drummer. Once the drummer is drowned out any extra volume is academic isn't it? The cab/s you use are going to make just as much difference as the amp you select, what are you using? The wt800b will push 1100w into 4ohms and weighs 26lbs. The semi parametric eq is very versatile, good for coping with difficult stages. With an active bass you also have the option of plugging into the effect return, bypassing the tube in the preamp, giving an even clearer, quicker sound (imo).

Ive heard lots of talk about reliability issues, and the one HONEST dealer in NY has said he's seen many come back. LIkely just sorting out the kinks in a new amp.... but I cant have a busted head on the road, especially not a $2000 one.

I'd pick a thunderfunk. need more power add an IPXXX.

Thunderfunck has too much EQ. Cant state this enough. I will miss soundcheck entirely messing with the knobs. I'm like an OCD 10 year old with the stuff......

hahah some explanation.... on tour, we bring 2 of everything. 2 amps, two axes, two cabinets.. in case of breakage or loss.... and in case that we're playing a larger place with little or no PA support ( happens all the time...) in which case the guitaretards will load up all four 412's. My "backup" cabinet is an Ashdown mini 10T. ..... I'm solidly against going back to a rack steup. There's sooo much stuff out there now with a real 500 - 1000 watts weighing less than a donut.....

weeeeellll thank you. We're actually in the studio at the moment doing a 6-song ep which, if all goes as it should, will be available at an FYE near you round about March 2007. I'm liking the Ampeg as well.....

I bet the IP212/IP310 stack WOULD get the job done!

........... thanks for your support? Well.... to specify as it seems neccesary, YTD we have played 47 shows, 35 of which took place in close succession in areas outside our hometown, across the country in a linear fashion, without stopping to go home and shower inbetween....thereby qualifying in my mind the moniker...tour...... sorry for the confusion?

To answer the question asked, I would vote for either the Carvin B1500 (based on glowing reviews, not my personal experience) or the Genz Benz GBE1200. There are two seperate eqs for each channel, but it can be simplified by just using one channel and the related eq.

I would mirror what others have said above, that you probably don't need that much power. On non-PA gigs, you only need to be loud enough to keep up with your drummer, and the guitards need to leave half of their stack in the car and regulate their volume. On PA-supported gigs, you just need enough to monitor yourself and let the PA do the rest.

I don't think I would go the Pre/power route, as you are talking about a whole different dimension of weight. If you can't get it done with either the Carvin or the GB listed above, then it might be time to discuss stage volume with your guitards.

so it seems i really ought to have included the GB and the Carvin....

We'll Im calling Carvin tomorrow to order a b1500 and see what gives, I'll post back later.....

I've been using my friends Mesa 400+ and loving it.........

but HERE'S THE REAL QUESTION:

who uses the PJB m-500?

everyone love the bass buddy.....
