Vox Sidewinder

I once saw this bass in the window of a small thrift shop in Massachusetts. However, the combination of a high price, inability to test it through an amp, large finish cracks, and this bass's legend of hard-to-find parts, I couldn't pull the trigger. But this bass has stayed in my mind since.

Does anyone have one of these or have you seen it anywhere? any information would greatly interest me!

John Entwistle famously played on the Smothers Brothers episode where Keith blew up his drum kit. I believe that they were introduced in 1967, and at the time, the who had a deal with vox (possibly). As a result, they probably sent John one of these basses to try out.

had one, sold it about 18 months ago. sounded ok, a little weak, silly thin neck made of multiple laminations. No real value as i had to almost give it away to sell on feebay. Tribute band of course.
