VT Bass (version 1) vs VT Bass DI

I quickly adopted into the VT Bass when it first came out... but, the blend function on the DI really has my attention.

It's not like I've got money burning a hole in my pocket, but I'm sure considering upgrading to the DI version..... is it worth it? Would you go from VT v.1 to VT DI?

I cant say what will work for you, but in my case its the DI version all the away.
I hated the VTBass v1. only had it for about a month before selling it. I was weary about the DI but thought id give it a go. I love it to bits. It has so much more to give over the old pedal. I dont use it much, but its the one box i will never get rid of.

Another option is pairing the VT Bass V1 with a Q/Strip. The Q/Strip gives you the DI and Cab Sim features. And the VT has the tube amp emulation. Can't see the need for a blend function. I have the VT Bass V2, but don't use the speaker sim. Highly recommend the two together. Just a mass of tone.

I have the Q/Strip as well. Fantastic box, but i find i dont use it with other preamps. Too many EQ options and knobs to turn seems to slow me down.

Agreed, a lot of knob tweaking. A Q/Strip VT Bass pedal would be excellent.

Well the V1 has the speaker sim baked in already, so I don't think it's necessary to try adding a further one with a Q-Strip.

I have both the V1 and DI. The blend is very useful if using a high output bass and/or pushing the gain into saturation and you want to bring some of the original dynamics back in. The bite switch is useful too, it's always on in the V1, but turning it off lets you get some great vintage P-Bass and flats type tones where you would have had to turn the treble all the way off in the V1 to match.

I would upgrade, but look for a good deal on a used one since your appear to be in no major hurry!

My personal reasons to go for "DI" version:
1) Blend knob (usually I use it around 12-2 o'clock)
2) Switchable bite filter. For me it's just useless so it's always disengaged
3) Switchable cabsim

So overall "DI" for me is more controlable and sounds less artificial

Im using the deluxe. Now ive got a clean vt, a slightly tubey vt and a saturated vt only 1 click away. I never use the di on it though. I di from my ultra light and portable genz benz shuttle

2 of the features are on the DI now, but I had them done before even V2 or the programmable came out. I had the XLR and speaker sim defeat switch installed. This speaker sim defeat was different from what would be in V2 in that it bypasses the speaker sim circuit completely; just like the DI one does now.

The other 2 mods installed are a mid sweep knob so I can select the frequency of the mid control since stock both the character and mid are centered at the same frequency, and I had a bite knob installed so I can dial in the amount of "bite" I want instead of having to go with either on or off.
