VT Pedal Questions

Now that I have the '73 P, I'm gonna be chasing that sound I got when I plugged it into the SVT-CL (like the soundclips I posted earlier, minus the string brightness).

My current amp is a SWR Basic Black, do you think if I put a VT pedal in front of that it would move it in that direction? I like the SWR alot, but the SVT just had balls and musicality that was amazing...

Yes it will certainly move you that way, but you also will need the "force" of the SVT power section, and presumably a cabinet to match that intent. Ultimately speaking.

Oh, I know it wont' be an SVT...*sigh*...but it would be a start!

I'm by no means an Ampeg expert, but I used to own a Basic Black, and if you're currently using the Aural Enhancer knob, it's probably not helping you get an SVT sound.

Seriously I'm now thinking there's something wrong with the SWR. It takes cranking up the preamp input way high to get a hot signal, and the overall power seems down. I don't think it's this new bass is underpowered! It really seems like it's been getting weaker over time - any ideas what this is? I can't afford to really fix it right now. It is a lovely amp, not and SVT but I really like it. Better than other combos that size I've heard.

could just need a biasing of the transistors. or it could be a loose solder. or it could be the amp's about to explode you'll never know until you have it looked at by a tech. unfortunately, it's possible it could cost as much or more than the amp is worth, and even if you decide not to fix it, you could still end up with a $40-50 bench charge. no idea to tell you how ot proceed, but i'd suggest preparing for the inevitable wallet emptying.

Thanks Jimmy M - I figured something like this would happen after I bought the '73 P and all my $ is gone. Seriously though it's been acting up for awhile... just bad timing, may have to figure out what to do...

I guess maybe I'll ask my tech to look at it.
