VVTT question

I have a cheapo Squire P bass I'm modding all to crap. I have installed an old EMG Select humbucker at the neck, so it's kinda like a Yamaha Attitude. I want to be able to roll the tone on the EMG, but keep the P pup nice and crunchy, so I've installed a volume and a tone pot for each pickup. No matter how I wire it up, the 2 tones work in conjunction with each other. In other words, if I roll off one tone, it affects both pups, and the 2nd tone rolls off even more highs. It's great for dub type tones, but I don't really need them. Is there any way (besides installing a pup selector switch) to get the tone pots to work independently?

on a standard tone control, the circuit is connected to the signal that is feeding the jack

on a VVTT type arrangement, you connect each tone circuit to where the pickup attaches to the wiper of the respective volume pot.

each tone will effect the other somewhat...but if you use a large enough tone pot (500k with 0.047 cap I'd recommend) then it won't be too pronounced.
