Just so everyone knows (mods) i have a few different questions that will come at the right time about different thing with this bass. ie wiring finishing setup etc so didnt want to have to repost this same thread into 17000 different parts of this website. This place just seemed smartest choice. Please move it if i was mistaken.
So i have a bass i got 2nd hand a few months ago and never really got into playing it much because it wasnt set up right. the action was horendiously high and other things haha. basically when i start building my next bass im probabily going to do a poly finish on it so i thought when i adjust this bass with the neck off and such, i might as well try finishing it with poly. its only a cheap bass anyway and i didnt really like the colour. too red. not black enough haha.
question is now ive start sanding down the face of it but dont know if i should finish it like this or take it back to all natural. I think i like it as it because its between dark red still, fading red with clear timber, and almost 100% clear timber. What do you guys think?
heres a fb link to it. this is with a small bit of water rubbed over it to get rid of some of the dust and bring up a bit of shine i might get when finished.

also the neck had an amazing amount of rattle in it when hiting lower strings... i just found out yesterday when i stripped it what it was. the truss rod rattles like a mo*******er. i tried adjusting it but hardly did anything. im thinking it wasnt glued down at the ends properly in construction.
BTW CAN ANYONE GUESS WHAT BASS IT IS?
also it came with gold hardware which is fadded preety bad. any ideas how to get it back to silver? just bolt all the pieces to some scrap timber and hit it with a high pressure sprayer?

Mine was a "Samick", which was the name it was sold under in Canada through the 80s- It was an asian made import. Yours has a similar shaped control cavity.

ahh first so. congratulations haha i was hoping the F on the neck pocket would fool some people. but yes it is a samick. some atrist series or something. and i believe they are made in Korea. personally signed by Kim Jong Ill. haha i wish would be worth a bit probabily.
Not to go hurt anyones feelings, but i my Personal opinion, the rics are damn ugly. dad on the other hand thinks there sexy as ****. just my opinion though. But in saying that, what you have there is one very beautiful bass guitar. Especially love the pain finish with the choice of hardware :D yum yum

so today (currently) im still sanding down the body while trying to keep as much of the red stained wood as possible, whist when its done it will have small patches of origional red and also white origional timber to ass some contrast to the overall visual effect. Hope it all goes well.

Check the link at the top again for new pics (and a Short video of the cleaner). Finished sanding down the bass to what im happy with. the first few pics are with a fading coat of grease remover thats very temporary. just evaporates within seconds so it doesnt look the best but in some you can really see the grain of the timber brought out by it
Thoughts?

Decided last night to go ahead with SD Basslines pups and im also going to put in a basically brand new Bartolini 3 channel pre i had just sitting collecting dust on my bed side table.
i was wondering, is it wrong to put my name brand on the headstock? not like calling it my own, but having a builds logo and a modifieds logo for the different basses i do? This one of cause being a mod naturally.
