I bought a Washburn guitar today that had a speedloader Floyd Rose bridge on it, something I didn't even know existed & it makes it almost perfect for me, since I hate that you have to lock in the strings on standard FR bridge with the string locking screw & string lock insert block.
The one in the Washburn is set up so you can leave the ball ends on the strings & the string lock screws are really ferrules to hold the ball ends.
BTW, on a standard FR if you lose the string insert block (top right) when you've got it apart, you're screwed:
It's missing the vibrato arm, but I can get one online for less than $15.
Like a big dummy I didn't test it out in the store. I went over it physically & decided it had no high frets & all the parts seemed to be in order, so I made an offer, counter offer, and cash purchase.
Got it home & the output was so low that I had to turn my 40 watt amp up halfway with the gain & drive maxed to hear it at a normal level (it should have been pretty loud), so there's definitely something wrong with it. I even tried another instrument cable, same thing.
Took it back to the shop just minutes after leaving with it, because I live literally a mile from the place, no dice on getting my money back, but the guy says he's going to have his guy look at it, but it will be a week.
I've been thinking about it ever since & I'm thinking about going back to the shop & asking for it back, to have a go at it myself or just take it to the local luthier & drop some cash to get it right.
A similar Ibanez would have cost me over 3x more & wouldn't have a speed loader FR.
What I'm afraid of is the guy will sell it out from under me. The only thing I have to show the police, in a dispute, is the tag from the headstock with a description & a date written on it.
The guy in the shop claims he's got a guy who comes around to look at stuff weekly, but to my memory this particular Washburn is the first new instrument he's acquired in quite a while, but obviously I'm not camped out at his store.
Although, I don't see a lot of movement in the inventory, so having a guy make weekly visits wouldn't make sense.
