Wal Bass kinda tone

I want to get a bass with a tone that comes close to the Wal Bass tone, but I don't want to spend 4000 pounds on a bass. Any advices of basses that have a similar tone?

Seriously, this should be a sticky already...what Wal tones are you going for? Tool, Rush, or Japan? I suggest a G&L L2000.

I did it with a Sterling HH, in position 3,mids cut about 50% on the preamp.

I do it with my Spector...a LOT of Porcupine Tree you hear is a Spector.
