Wal Clone/Tribute club?

Well, I just searched *Wal Club" because I am taking my Kramer Pioneer Double J one step closer to being a Wal Tribute.

Even though it's old, I figure why not see if this this worthy thread can get some life. I know I've seen at least two killer Wal inspired builds somewhat recently.

My wanna be Wal already has two Luisthand Single NFP preamps, each with their own output. The double J pups were wound by a friend. They were originally two separate sets, but we're converted for this bass.

I like the sound a lot, but I'm still not playing it that much because of other basses. So, I recently got a set of Nordstrand Polyvox pups that I'm very excited to get in there. They are EMG soapbars so the cavities will have to be expanded just a hair. The pickup placement is pretty close and the cavity expansion will be done to get the placement correct. Pickup rings will be made. I'm thinking maple to match the headstock and add contrast.

Pics will come when the new pups are in.

I got so excited about the Polyvox pups that I'm putting in that I ordered a Klos graphite neck to put on my Kramer (wanna be Wal.) But I decided after playing the Kramer for a longer period than I had in a while, that I'd surely wish I could a/b the different pups.

So, the only sensible thing to do is build another bass. It'll be a mahogany Wal shaped body with a graphite neck, Nordstrand Polyvox pups with individual outputs, and two Luisthand Single NFP preamps.

I'm tremendously excited!

I built a poor man’s Wal bass using a Yamaha trbx-304 as a platform. I installed Turner multicoil pickups, a Lusithand double NFP special preamp, and a 5-way varitone for additional tone-shaping capabilities. The trbx-304 is great for this project. I think it looks and plays incredible.
