Walkabout Scout 15" - Input appreciated...

Hi Guys,
I know that there are some really learned individuals here with regards the WA Scout. Here's my issue. I have a less than 1 year old WA Scout 15" combo. Last night in rehearsal, the thing just cut out. All I had in terms of volume was a tinny, transistor radio type sound - very low volume. Nothing through the 15" speaker at all. I was running the gain at 12 o'clock and the volume at arounf 10' O clock. Settings flat as I was going through my Sanasamp BDDI.

Checked the head. No issues - working fine. Pulled out the speaker - all looked fine. Nothing obvious with the capacitors but I don't profess to be an electrician.

We moved into a new rehearsal room last night. Might just be coincidence but perhaps dirty electrics in there... That said noone else had an issue.

I have it under warranty so I will be getting it addressed - so no drama.

I just wondered if any of you WA users have experienced this?

BTW - fantastic combo. I am sure this is a freak occurrence - I'm not here to badmouth the WA Scout - best sounding little rig I have had the pleasure of owning and looking forward to getting her up and running again.

Most common Walkabout troubles seem to be:
1)bad tubes (easy and cheap to swap)
2)a short in the FX loop IF it's an older unit without the toggle switch to bypass this loop. Per Chef's effective recipe: try spraying DeOxit on a 1/4" plug and reaming the FX loop send/return jacks. If it's a newer unit, keep the FX loop toggle at bypass if not in use. Hope that helps. Else....call Mesa.

Thanks man. This thing has a great warranty and the store where I purchased it is a Mesa certified repair shop - so I am good. I just wanted some input to make sure I've eliminated something that could be addressed before invoking all those folks. I'll follow your tips. Appreciate you taking the time.

How do you know the head is fine now? Did you try it with another cab? Does it fire up fine now?

Yeah - playing with it now. Checked some of the points lomos offered and everything seems ok on these fronts. As I write, I have the head going through an 8 ohm peavey 15 inch PA cab at the moment. Works fine (except that its cut the wattage due to using an 8 ohm speaker). Looks like it is a speaker issue...

I had the same problem with my WAS 15. I sent it back to Petaluma where they updated the circuitry to the latest spec and fixed the problem. It cost me one-way shipping for the head. I love my Mesa/Boogie. Its tone is well worth 30 days in the shop.

Have you tried plugging it back into the scout cab? Does it still do the same thing?
