Walking and Comping - for 6 String Bass

Hey ya'll, I'm looking for video examples of walking and comping using a 6 string bass.

There are plenty of example with regular guitar, like these:

I can learn a lot from watching these, but it would really be nice to see someone pulling it off with a 6 string bass.

If I'm not mistaken I've seen Damian Erskine using this technique before but having a hard time finding it.

Any examples would be much appreciated!

I have been trying to do this for a while on 4 and 5 string basses. I think you'd be using a similar approach on a 6er too. In any case the principles are the same, but the shapes are different (based on having upper two strings rather than 3 because the A will still sound a bit muddy, in your case you might be able to do all three). The guitar tuning works well for the shapes and you will have to find a tuning that works for you.

The Late/Great Dave Carpenter RIP - He was known in Los Angeles mostly as an Upright Bassist, and was a joy to hear on both basses. He had a Trio with Peter Erskine on drums and Bob Sheppard on saxes...Dave played his 6 string bass, playing basslines AND chords.
Check out his Upright work with Alan Pasqua's Trio with drummer Peter Erskine on YouTube.
Thanks for appreciating this wonderful musician.

Sad to hear that he has passed on... I'd honestly never heard of him before but he has to be one of the finest musicians to ever pick up the instrument.

Definitely underrated and I'll be digging into some more of his music for sure.
