Then they transitioned to psychedelia pretty well…

That was of their R&B influenced era, when they were giving competition to the Stones. You could possibly label that as freakbeat, but the actual psych era for them was the S.F. Sorrow album.
Also from that earlier phase were two songs that David Bowie covered on his Pin Ups Swinging London tribute…


All of which featured their original bass player, John Stax.
