1990 WW MI 400-8 2 Channel "Manual" and 1990 Pricelist/Catalog

I've been talking with dylanjohnson who is archiving WW docs so I thought I would post my contribution here as well. My 1990 MI 400-8 2 Channel "Manual" complete with my spare fuse still taped to it LoL

How can I get the MI-400 8 user manual ?, I don't seem to be able to see it on here.

Yes I have probably the 2nd MI-400 8 ever built by Walter back in '88-'89... he built mine exactly after he built the same model for The Then Tonight Show bassist Joel someone. Anyway Walter told me there was a way to utilize both mid controls at the same time. Richard Bona told me there is a special cable for this purpose. Do you know anything about it?

I have no idea how you would do that. Just out of curiosity, why would you want to? They eq between the top and bottom channel are a little different but I don't think the eq points are that different.

I really think it is the best bass amp ever made. I've been trying to replace mine forever but nothing works as well.

I agree that it's the best ! I just want to try to see what my result would be on the dbl bass because my Room is very boomy and I need all the help I can get.

The only special cable I'm aware of with Walter's amps is for bridging the stereo power amp models, which is what Richard had. If you use that cable on your amp you'll blow it up!! Post a pic of your amp, I might have a manual.

It works great for upright.

The 2nd channel was made for double basses. Play with the plus minus switches if you are getting to much boom. Mine looks just like yours but was made for someone named Richard...

yes, I know... A lot depends upon the room acoustics and speaker.. I actually get a great sound but sometimes I like to have more mid choices. When Walter built my amp as I'm sure he did with everyone, he asked what type of amp I was using and of course I was and still do use GK which have 2 mids.So that's why He told me I could use both mids on thus amp simultaneously.

I don't have a manual for that one, but I have an article by Paul Rivera written in '86 that explains everything about that preamp except what you are asking about. I'll upload it later today.

As far as what you're wanting to do, the only thing that makes sense to me is to use a female to male Y instrument cord plugged into each channel of the preamp. Put the Channel select switch in Mix mode. Use one channel as your main EQ and keep everything flat on the second channel except for the midrange that you want to use.

Let us know how it works out! What pickup are you using? I sometimes put a fdeck hpf in the fxloop or a Sarno blackbox before the preamp and the fdeck if I am playing in a really loud situation. Currently I run a Grace Design Felix as preamp using the MI-400 as a power amp with the Yamahiko pick-up.

It's not so easy to split a signal passively.

If you ever sell the MI-400, let me know please!!!

I'm using the David Gage Lifeline pickup, I'm going to try using my Boss SE-50 running stereo outputs to each channel. I've seen at least one or maybe 2 MI-400 8 amps for sale over the years. I doubt if I would ever want to sell it . But good luck finding one. Thanks for your input.

At least in the late 1970’s, his wife was helping him. I recall vividly the two of them sitting at what seemed to be their kitchen table winding transformers.

When I visited him in the desert (Palm Desert?) I think he had someone working with him who wasn’t his wife, but that memory is pretty fuzzy.

It is the MI-225-8, stereo, green light, overlapping WW amp logo.
I discovered reading the beginning of this (long) thread that it was possible with a « special » cable to bridge the power and thus, at least double the power.
Has any one more infos on this ? What is this mysterious cable ? Where are the plugs, has someone tried it ?
