Double Bass Walter Woods MI-200 considering selling

Question1

I am considering selling my 1998 Walter Woods Electroacoustic MI-200-8 amp.

It is the 300 watt into 8 ohm two channel version.

Before I place it in the classified section, what is it currently worth?
It is in in like new condition with maybe 20 hours of use.

Located in Germany (where everything is 30% more expensive!)

Thanks

Question 1,
Well, the market for a used Walter Woods has fluctuated recently. As best as I can recollect, the most recent post of a used Walter Woods Ultra on Talkbass, the seller was asking $1,700.00, for an amplifier that costs $2,700,00. Competition from other manufactures, issues with getting them repaired, and the rising cost of those repairs, may have contributed to the lower prices. He moved the sale to ebay http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f127/2002-walter-woods-ultra-1001761/ .Your amp is unique in that it's one of the few Woods amps that has built in DI's. The picture below should be something similar to your amp.

Hi Ric,

thanks for the response. Actually my amp looks quite different to your photo.
It has one DI out which is a 1/4". Mine also has 6 controls per channel ( I think the vari. mid control is the extra one).
And it has the newer knobs.
This one is stamped 01.10.98

So if I add 30% to the price (Europe is expensive!) it should be about right.
Thanks

Interesting, that means it's a line out, not a DI. So you have to connect a DI to the 1/4" out. We call that amp the "slider". I only have a pictures of the stereo versions of the MI-225.

If you have what I think you have, I'd ask for $1500 and be happy with $1000. I eventually got a grand for the last and nicest Woods I had, which was a 1998 transitional model with a MI-100-8 power section and two-channel Electracoustic preamp.

KUNGfuSHERIFF,

thanks for the info. This one is a 300 Watt @8 ohm version.

In my last post I was referring to another (my old) 1980 WW amp.
If someone can explain how I can upload a photo without using an URL link, I will do so.

Thanks

KUNGfuSHERIFF,

thanks for the info.

I see that someone just sold the same exact WW model, that I am considering selling, last week on ebay in the UK for €1744.; that is about $2000..

As I said, Europe is much more expensive than the U.S., and anything that gets imported from the U.S. into Germany gets levied with about 23% duty.

I will give myself one more day to think about selling it, then probably put it up on the classifieds here if anyone in Europe is interested.

The selling price for a Walter Woods amp varies from one individual sale to the next, because there are many different models of the amp. His Electroacoustic Ultras tend to command the highest prices in the used market here in the U.S. , but recently the resales of that amp have dropped a good bit. The most recent sale of a Walter Woods Ultra her on Talkbass was for $2,000.00.

The only amp I could locate on Ebay in the UK was for a stereo green light Walter Woods Electracoustic amplifier which is a fine amplifier, apparently the seller pulled it off ebay as the message reads "This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available". The Green Light Ultra is an entirely different amplifier than a MI-200-8. Evidently, there were two different amps for sale in the U.K, but I could not locate the one you're referring to. Do you own two different Walter Woods amps?

As I said, Europe is much more expensive than the U.S., and anything that gets imported from the U.S. into Germany gets levied with about 23% duty.

One would expect that, the same thing occurs when buying strings from Pirastro or Thomastik here in the U.S. that are imported from Germany.

Walter may have built his amps to well, as they have in many cases, continued to operate, well past the time when parts can be sourced for repairs in some cases. There just aren't that many discrete component solid state amplifiers on the market at this point.

Ric,

actually, I own three WW amps, and have been using my first one since 1980.

The one I am considering selling looks identical to the one you posted as a blue link in post 2; except mine has a green light.

I don't know if mine is an "Ultra". It is an "Electroacoustic" and printed on the bottom of the amp is MI-200 8, which is strange because it also says 300 watts @ 8ohm.

With most of Walters amps, the model number reflects the power rating.

Anyway, if I price it too high, then it will not sell.
I just wanted to avoid setting the price too low.

Can someone please explain how to post a picture on the forum without using an URL?
When I post it in the classifieds, I will need to post a photo to clarify exactly what model it is.

Thanks for the help.

Question 1

Provided you are a supporting member of Talkbass, you can attach a photo to this or any thread by hitting the Manage Attachments button inside the Attach Files Box box. Once you do that a little window will pop up where you have to Choose the file and then Upload the picture. Their is a file size limitation on the graphic.

Question1, you didn't ask me but I know the answer. 1998 was the transitional year between the MI-series amps and the Electracoustic amps. Yours has an Electracoustic preamp section and an MI-200 power section, similar to what my former amp had. I got that information from Walter over the phone after I bought that amp in 2003.

Kung Fu,
Every time I see another different model design of a Walter Woods, it's always something interesting. Just last winter another one of these amps came up for sale on TB, and most of us thought it was an MI series amp that Walter had to do major repairs on, so he just replaced the pre amp section with the Electroacoustic's front

end. Obviously from looking at this amp, that wasn't the case. I had no idea this type of amp even existed. What confused me, was that my Electroacoustic Ultra has no MI designation on the bottom of the amp. So I naturally assumed that if an amp said Electroacoustic on the front panel, then that's what it was on the inside. Just

shows you what I don't know. What really puzzles me is that I have one of the earliest Electroacoustic Ultras, and if memory serves me it was built in 1997. I go back and look at the bill to see if this is indeed true. I suppose it's possible that Walter had surplus power amp components that he needed to use up, so he built these last

MI's with Electroacoustic pre amps. Interesting.

Ric

P.S. Ampeg certainly did this, because their are all these variations in the B-15N's (B-15, B15-N, B-15N(A), B-15N(B), B-15N(C), B-15N(D), and B-15N(F) that occurred from 1960-1967

I'm still using my Walter Woods Electracoustic. I really haven'y found anything better. This is my second one. The first one went around the world many times with some of the acts I toured with. It sounded great and always worked. If you're wondering, I had a conversion transformer for Europe and Asia.

Thanks for all the info.

As I said, it says "MI-200-8", but it is 300 Watts into 8 Ohms, not 200 watts as one would think by the model number.

I just don't want to misrepresent what I am selling.

Maybe an: "Electracoustictransitionmodelwithadecrepencybetweenthemodelnumberandpowerrating"
