Double Bass Walter Woods repair?

Has anyone been in touch with Walter recently? Does he still repair amplifiers? Also, what is his current phone number? Thanks! I know there are old WW threads on this board, but he's getting on in years, so I wonder if any of you has dealt with him within the past year or so.

I have one of his 1200 watt amps. The pots are scratchy, the DI doesn't seem to work anymore, and I want the power cable and its mounting brackets replaced. Other than that, the thing sounds great! One of the best purchases I ever made.

As far as I know Walter services his own amps exclusively. There are no schematics for the Electro Acoustic series. That's one way that Walter protects his designs. It's best to send it out to him.

Yeah, and that worries me. What happens when he can't repair his amps anymore? In any event, I'm going to take an opportunity this summer to send mine to him, and get it back with a "clean bill of health".

Be Patient.... He is great to deal with when he is ready. He serviced my 82' two channel 100 watter a few years ago and when he finally answered my calls I had to move fast to overnight it to him, but I got it back in 2 days.... He has all the original parts that are crucial to servicing his amps. Stick w. Da man ....

Second on that "best purchases" bit. I have one of his older 1100-watt amps made in 1986 and it' still cranking flawlessly. If you trust yourself to do minor electronics maintenance the pots are easily cleanable with a can of the appropriate cleaner, I've done it a few times myself. You need to disassemble the case carefully, though, the wiring in the front of mine is folded elegantly and JUST SO! and needs to be in the same shape when you reassemble. The rest of it sounds relatively minor but it might be a good idea to have Walter look at it.

I've found over the years that writing a real (paper!) letter is the best way to contact Walter. If you STILL cannot get an answer, these folks: http://www.stereorepair.net are generally very good with stereos and vintage amps, and might be good with the Woods. They seem very honest to me, so if you ask them if they can do a good job on it you'll likely get a straight answer.
