Wanna hear a bass through a guitar amp?

This is my 80's Yamaha BB450 (on the P pickup) through my 80's 120 watt tube Peavey Butcher head and an avatar B212 and B410 cabs.

The bass, mid, treble controls are all on about 2 o'clock. The volume is about at 2 o'clock, too. My recordings skills are pretty weak, but the warmth and tone come across ok in the clip.

This is a new song I've been working on the past couple weeks, I really just recorded it to remember all the parts and have a solid arrangement down for the lyrics and bassline. It was all recorded live in my room with a sennheiser E609 mic about 2 feet in front of my PA and bass rig (the drum machine is going through the PA). It's kinda rough.

I could squeeze a lot more bass out of this circuit, if I wanted, but these settings seemed to sit well with another guitar at a practice a week ago.

LOL! So that second post sounded so pitiful that I had to go listen to it just to make you feel better. I thought the bass sounded pretty good there. It's a little rough but I thought it was a decent song.

The timing is rough, no doubt. I suppose bassists use that as the primary baseline with which to judge something. My problem is I'm a guitarist, too, so I get wrapped up in the tones often. Also, I'm a songwriter. I'm getting distracted by tones and lyrical composition. I'll never be a "true" bassist, likely. Thanks for listening, my pitiful post worked.

I think it has potential. Rough yes; I would sit and drink to that if I heard it in a bar.

I think we go for almost the same bass tone as well. I think it will sit in the mix just fine. Are you playing a P bass?

Actually, it seemed to sit really well in the mix in a jam last week. I had to turn the bass up some because I was competing with the guitar at first, but once I did that it sat nicely with the guitar and drums. There really isn't that much difference between a guitar amp and a bass amp, other than the tone stacks are tweaked differently. There are plenty of bass frequencies on tap with this amp, though.


I was using a Yamaha BB450 on the P pickup.
