Want to try different strings from local options

To just put an idea in your head, in case you ever come across them in the future - I have not ever played that particular model of Yamaha but have owned 4 different ones in the last 10 years or so and have worked on a few more. On every one of them, DR Fat Beams worked incredibly well. I am not sure if it was the interaction with the stock Yamaha branded pickups, or just me but DR Fat Beams always sounded great for me. I know you did not list them, so I apologize for recommending one not on your list. But if down the road you want to try something else…

I have grown quite fond of DR strings as my #2 brand as I've been testing them out on my son's Ibanez for the last couple of years. In fact, I have a set of Fat Beams on order from Fret Nation as we speak. I've tried them on my Jazz 8 yrs ago but can't remember much about them, except I concur they would probably match up well with the PJ setup of the OP's Yamaha.

Here are the DR strings I've tried in the past:

Fat Beams 45-105 on Fender J
Sunbeams 45-105 on Fender J
Nickel Lo-Riders 40-100 on Fender J
Pure Blues 45-100 on Fender J
SS Lo-Riders 40-100 + 125B on Ibanez SR-1205E

(On order)
Fat Beams 40-100 + 125B for Ibanez SR-1205E

I've been a very happy owner of Yamaha TRBX505 for the last 3 yrs, and BB735A is at the top of my shopping list for my next acquisition.

If I were to try a set of DRs on the BB, it would be a choice between PB 45-125 and NLR 40-100 + 125B.

DR Pure Blues have been my go-to for many years. They sound great on any bass I've tried them on.
EB Slinkies and Fender nickels are good backups when needed, but the DR does what I like best.

Have had a set of the EB Cobalt rounds on my Stingray Special... the jury is still out on them.

I've always had bad luck with stainless steel rounds (fret eaters), so I avoid any of those straightaway.

Experimenting with flats on my P-bass recently. Still ongoing.
The Chromes sounded good and have a good feel but I also think I had a few bad sets (thread posted earlier).
Fender 9050 are on there now, but "clang-clang-clang" has gotten old and I'm waiting for a new set of La Bella's (though not on your list of local choices)

Looks like you've got a lot of options locally. We have a fraction of those, so I'm getting a lot of practice in the on-line game of 'hunt-em-down' :laugh:

These string experiments can be expensive, but the results are often worth the pain.
