War Dog Accidentally Killed

This really stinks, I remember when this dog came to the USA and became a celebrity. You would think that the dog would have had a tag with its name on it and its owners address, etc. What a shame...
why's it his fault.....thats what every city pays them to do.....you want a different result,start looking into the no kill shelters in your area,most funded privately,instead of the public funded pounds that kill thousands of dogs every year.....only the war hero dog deserves any kind second chance i guess....X2.

Very sad indeed, total incompetence, the same thing happens here in the U.K, but you need to substitute Dog Shelter with Hospital, and Dog with Person.
Blessed Be!!! I just saw that dog on TV a couple of weeks ago ... great back story ... even better dog. It just saddens me, especially with all the exposure this dog has had.
IMO ... when someone is makes a mistake on which dog is to be euthanized and when ... they shouldn't be allowed to do the job anymore. Euthanizing any animal should never be taken lightly.

i read that yesterday, very sad indeed...i hope this can at least spark some reconsideration of policy and adherence to policy nation wide
As a former K-9 handler in Vietnam, this breaks my heart. The bond that a handler forms with his dog in combat is not easily explained. I almost extended for another tour because I hated the thought of leaving my dog over there. I came to my senses and didn't extend, but it was brutal leaving him there.
Back then, we were not allowed to bring our dogs back to the States. The military cited the reason that they were afraid the dogs might bring a disease back to the States. So they basically had a life (or death) sentence when they were sent over there.
So this story hits home and deeply saddens me.

The man's dog (the pooch served him in Afghanistan) ran off. He was contacted by the shelter, but before he could get there, someone mistakenly euthanized the poor doggie.
It is a very sad story. There isn't an excuse but really, you can't blame the guy who did it or the shelter. There are millions of stray, unwanted and neglected animals in this country. If you are looking to blame someone, blame the people that look at the cute little puppy or kitty, take it home and than realize that it takes time, energy and money to take care of that cute little puppy. The cute little puppy also grows up t a big dog.

Oh yes you can. This dog was mistakenly put down. I don't know about anyone else but if I make a mistake at my job let's say, I'm responsible.
Some idiot somewhere along the line did not follow proper protocol or wasn't thinking and screwed up. I can and will blame that idiot.
That said, you are very much right in regards to people not knowing what they're getting into when they bring home a pet. Way too many animals are put down simply because they are no longer wanted. It's a crying shame really

Just got a new puppy on friday and this story is so sad. I tried looking at shelters in my area to adopt a dog and its amazing how nasty the places are. The workers are so rude and trying to adopt a dog feels like a convicted sex offender trying to adopt a kid... its amazing. Its almost as if they dont want the dogs to get adopted..... i mean seriously..... im 29 years old.. have a home.. can afford the dog... will offer it food, shelter and love... what more do they want?
Oh man, flipper, thank you SO much for posting this! Oh my, the memories... I've never seen it before. This is so powerful, and says what I've always felt better than I could say it. Wow......
