Warm Audio WA76 On Bass Guitar

Here is a video of me reviewing the WA76 compressor for Warm Audio. This is on a Sadowsky NYC 21 fret Jazz with single coils running into a Khan Audio DI with nothing else in the signal chain.

Thanks for subbing! I've been lucky enough to pick up an endorsement with them and have been acquiring a lot of gear from them. I've used the original units and these. It's amazing. All of the units are as good and some sound better.

I have a Tonebeast -> WA76->EQP-WA as a chain and love it.

If I could keep only one it would be the WA76. O.K. I would still need a device that brings the bass to line level, the Tonebeast is very good in doing this, but the cheaper WA12 would sound the same to me. The Golden Age Pres sound very good too to my ears.
In all honesty, I don't hear the differences between the settings on the tonebeast. I don't even know in a blind test, if the steel or the nickel transformer is active. Maybe that's just me. Maybe it's different if you do professional engineering or if you record accoustic guitars or vocals.
I wish I would have two EQP-WAs for stereo signals. For bass alone it is nice to have.
But what the WA76 does to my sound is dramatic. Not comparable to any pedal compressor - with the exception of the Cali Compact Bass that comes close.
For me the WA76 - I have it for years - is the one piece of gear that made me feel like "having this professional bass sound I love on records". And it wasn't just the new gear effect - it is still this way after years and I'm missing something at gigs or rehearsals where I don't use it.
I'm more into vintage bass sounds, most of the bass players I admire record direct (think Bernard Edwards, Robby Shakespear, Jamerson and the guy from Roxy Music on the Avalanche Album).

That's a great chain for sure. I have a pultec on the way. I'm actually using the WA2A and WA76 in series. I hardly ever compress I just run the signals through them hitting their sweet spots and its a killer combo.
