Thanks for your help guys, I am thinking of going down the Norstrand path. It seems to be the most recommended for the sound that I am chasing... I shall review once I get a hold of them over the next couple of weeks!

so how's the situation with your pickups now? I'd like to make pickup switch, have nearly the same sound reasons as you with my US 75RI. I'm thinking about NJ4s, Antiquities and Fralins. Do you have any results now? This would be very helpful. Thanks.

YUP! Nordstrands are the goods! I actually did not care for the overly boomy bottom end of the SD Antiquity II.
If you want some Nordstrands that are even a touch warmer than the NJ4, then try the NJ4SV which is a split coil noiseless model which is a touch warmer than the standard Jazz pickup. Can't go wrong either way!
