Warmoth Painted Bodies

not sure if this is in the right section or not but has anyone had experience with a warmoth painted body?

I want to get one but am a bit concerned about tapping the screws for a pickguard and control plate on a jazz bass and possibly cracking the finish.

Input would be great thanks guys

Here's my experience:

Warmoth does a nice job with their finish work.

If you ever want to drill into a coated finished body, you have to prep the finish with pilot holes first so it does not crack.

I just drilled the pickguard/football jack/strap button holes on my guitarist's Warmoth Strat, and had no issues whatsoever. I also did the pickguard holes for a used Warmoth Jazz I had, and same thing, no issues. I used a Dremel tool, which works best for me, but a trick some people use when they're worried about cracking or chipping is putting masking tape over the spots you want to drill.

Drill your pilot holes in reverse just through the finish, starting with the smallest first. For your last drill make the hole the width as the threads on the screw..maybe a tad larger, but just through the finish not deep into the wood.Running the bit in reverse will stop "bust out "I prefer to paint my own bodies but here's one painted by Warmoth that I dearly love.I used the reverse method with all of the screw holes..no problems at all.
