That's true, you can put together just a wonderful piece of art. I have put together 5 of them. The only sad thing is related with their necks. Sometimes they are too heavy, sometimes they sound too "closed" or "not enaugh open" (sorry for my poor English!) I guess it's because of the metal bars? In the other hand, the steel bars give more stiffness to their necks.
In my case I wasn't quite happy with Warmoth's Deluxe 5-string neck, so I reshaped it quite heavily. It's more like classic C-shape now, in fact quite close to MTD. It feels more resonant and plays a lot better now.

If overhead means "cost of buying tools and supplies", then not getting your overhead and labor should tell you not to do it if you don't like it. I assume that people who don't like to be bothered doing things for themselves don't bother to do so.
"Brand recognition" markup is an absolute loss when you DIY. It adds immeasurably to cost because selling your creation winds up looking like taking less than salvage for the parts.
I own a couple of projects that, despite the fact they constantly draw compliments and were great fun to build and are great fun to play, can never be liquidated. Shucks.
I have a black korina Warmoth jazzbass body (clear poly finish) married to a Fender HM neck (very slim neck from the discontinued Fender Heavy Metal (HM) line. I've never actually seen a HM Bass) with bart pups and active eq. I love the thing!

Yes, I think the woods on that bass are really great, nice acoustic sound. Glad you like it. It seems AV-basses are getting a lot of fans in this corner of Europe.

How do you like the Status neck? Not that many raound and I've been dying to ask someone that. Any sense of how it compares with the Modulus/Moses/or Zon graphites? What kind of music do you play with it, what tones do you get and how does it fit in the mix?

I used to own a Modulus Flea 4 which had a different profile, so its not really an apples to apples comparison. That being said, the fretwork and nutwork on my status is superior to the modulus. That being said, the modulus was quite nice as well. At the end of the day I think its akin to asking if you'd rather drive a Ferrari or a Lamborghini.... They're both going to get you there in style.
