Warwick Body Trouble (READ: Grain)

Currently wielding a brand new Warwick Fortress - Rockbass, naturally, so not my top wood of choice. The bass sounds great though. Here's the issue; the grain is quite open in spots, mainly just above the top pickup, where fingers make contact when popping. As a result, the grain is getting absolutely destroooooyed in that spot, and I have no clue what to do. The finish is Burgundy Oil. Any ideas on how to prevent further damage if not repair this sucker? Or would Warwick warranty this..... never had any experience with them. Thanks in advance.

It happened to a quality MIJ Ibanez Soundgear 5er of a friend of mine. Nothing wrong with neither tone of bass nor playability, just with overall look...
A luthier satin (not glossy) finish can make it... Not that much expensive and effective... But can develop into a periodical maintenance, for gloss treatment can possibly be "eternal", yet pricey... Satin refinishing is, as I said, not

Make a custom pickgaurd..your fingers can get caught up on the grain in soft wood.

Forget about it and play the bass. They're not supposed to be museum pieces.

Hmmm. For some reason I don't think sloppy popping is covered under the warranty

Don't worry, it'll look like a slappers bass in the end - lots of mojo. But if you really don't want it wearing down, Fortresses don't look half-bad with a pickguard. Do a search and you'll see what I mean.
