+1 A Ric has 2 pups, 2 vol/tone and a vintage/mod tone switch. Mine sounds like a Ric, Jazz, P, Ray and in my book that's more than one trick.

Since you tried both, choose the one you liked best.
I personally don't like Warwicks, but you're the one who has to play your choice.
And since I don't follow Warwick used prices, I can't comment on that, but Ricks do hold their value in the used market if the condition is good or better.
That means little if you never sell it, however.
Ricks are more versatile than many give them credit for, but certainly not the most versatile out there.

If you're still undecided, try them both again, preferably through your rig or something similar to it, then choose.

Okay, I've been considering a new option for a few hours now and can't come to a complete decision. I know I loved the Ric I played yesterday and I know I definitely won't regret purchasing one, but there was one bass that got me into Rickenbacker in the first place and it wasn't a 4003. I went to the GC in Houston recently and loved the variety of basses they had in stock, but I glanced at one bass hanging on their main display, a RICKENBACKER 4000!!!! I played that instrument for hours and no other bass matched in tone, feel, and overall impression that thing left with me.

I'm wondering if I should hold off and try to find a nice 4000 or should I just go ahead with the 4003?

A nice 4000 will set you back the price of two or three new 4003s.

You can try to find one but if you're in the market for one sooner rather than later, you should get a 4001 or a 4003. The 4000 hasn't been made in nearly 30 years.

I like the 4000 but if I were going to actively seek a high-dollar antique bass I'd look for a 4005, myself.

Since you're wanting to try Rickenbackers, have you played a 4004?

I've tried the 4004 a few months back but found it lacked the bite I look for in my tone, I would even go as far to say it sounded muddy. The 4003 and 4000 hit every area I was looking for in tone and playability, but the 4000 seemed to wipe the floor with the 4003, IMO. I wish I could try out a 4001 but from what I hear I'm not missing too much from what I've already tried.

I've been a Stingray man for too long now, I want/need a change. I think the reason why I'm so partial to the Ric is because I love a nice treble clank every now and then. I think I'm gonna give myself another week because I also want to see if I can find a Warwick Thumb to try out; more and more I'm hearing great things about that bass.

I'm obviously a Rickenbacker fan but in all honesty, take your sweet time. This isn't like you're buying a stick of bubble gum. ;)

If you get the Warwick, cool. So long as you're happy with your end result, even if it turns out to be an SX or Rogue bass.

I never would have thought someone would say the 4004 didn't have bite.

I have a '76 4000 (not for sale, sorry), and it is much less versatile than a 4001/4003, a 4004 is again more versatile than the 4001/4003 but different, and not quite what you seem to be after.
The 4000 is a great, in your face, rock bass, but can be tamed for softer genres. Mine has a fantastic neck and plays beautifully, but is not the best for a variety of tones.

IF you can find a 4000 for sale, and that's the real problem, you will most likely pay more than a common 4001/4003.
The ones you usually see on ebay have been relisted time and again for quite a while and are overpriced, that's why they're still for sale.
Finding one for sale is the hard part.

Good poll if you want to find out if there are more Rick fanboys or Wick fanboys. Both will provide a "NICE Rock sound with a good combination of growl and mids" so go with the one that appeals to you the most. I voted Warwick but the sex comment makes me think you'd be happier with a Rick.
