Warwick neck question

Has anyone ever put a finish on their Warwicks neck? I gotta say that even with waxing a couple times a week, it still tends to get sticky during long practices and/or gigs

I'm thinking of lightly sanding the neck and applying a think finish to keep this from happening. Does anyone (Warwick owner or not) have a suggestion for how to do this?

I posted this up in the Basses section, but perhaps there will be better feedback in this section. :)

Thanks!

if the neck is getting sticky this often, you might want to consider the "wax build-up" question. it may have too much wax and oil from your hands in the grain, and needs to have the build-up removed to truly clean the neck. Is the neck Wenge, Ovangkol(shedua), Bubinga, or Maple?

Sorry to get back at you so late, but its an Ovangkol neck. I've stopped using wax for a bit, but on very humid days I feel the neck tends to have a certain "grip" about it.

You might look into hitting the neck with some really fine steel wool to get all the excess wax off (with the grain of course), then oil it with boiled linseed oil (or some other very fine oil). I've done it to my Dolphin and it worked pretty well. The stickiness is probably the wax though, that's for sure.

Hi,

I use Modulus basses and the necks get sticky. When this happens I spray the neck with Finger Ease. I think it's still available. but it makes the neck real fast. Maybe this will help.

Good luck,
Bill
