Washburn ATB T25 Taurus

I had this bass in a 4 string (T24). The electronics had low output and little that was interesting in the way of tone. They sounded a bit better with flats.
The bass was a bit neck heavy and the neck was substantially bigger than the thin Ibanezes. The edge of the neck was rather sharp (not rounded) adn teh fret edges had some sharp edges. I traded it in.

Dan Lenard here, at LAG.

Jerzy and I have been aware of the Washburn Taurus for about 2 years.

We are not pissed - there was no scandal at NAMM.
Where did that hooey come from ?
( Really, someone please explain this nonsense to me )

But, when I first saw the Taurus 2 years ago, I WAS ticked.
You see, at the Franfurt Music Messe in 2002, a Koren fellow bought 5 Jerzy Drozd basses and promised to order 50 more for the local ( Korean) market.
This sounded a bit suspicious - are high end basses doing well in Korea ?

Well, the order for 50 never came through ( no surprise ).
But....... a few months later the Taurus appeared - the Washburn catalog claimed a unique and original design.

I contacted Michael Tobias, asking him to refer me to his attorney.
I called this attorney in New York, explained the situation , and asked for his advice.
He advised me that he was the attorney for Washburn !!

At this point I had to laugh at the situation.
I figured that anybody who plays and buys the Washburn would probably never buy one of Jerzy's basses, and vice versa.

I believe this story serves to demonstrate the "character" of the decision makers at Washburn.
Enuff said.

I have a Taurus 5 string and love it. I swapped out the cheap Korean tuners for Hipshots hi ratios and noticed an incredible difference in the resonence. A week later I put on the hipshot bridge. The electronics are a little sucky from the pot standpoint, but the pickups seem find. Very comfortable and better sustain an mwaaah than many basses costing 3x. $437 for the bass + $110 for tunners, $100 for bridge. $650-ish, plus my labor.
