Wave Goodbye...

be glad you can still get 'em broadbent, i was in the "online waiting room" 20 minutes early for the LA tickets and they still sold out before i could get my hand on them, some 20 seconds of number entering after they went on sale! gotta hand it to the fellow fans in LA, they are punctual:)

For Toronto : I've looked into the matter and it looks like the curfew is indeed 9PM, venue's decision, Virgin can't do anything about it. I doubt NIN will be allowed to play longer than that.

1h15 is really short indeed. Hopefully you guys will bust out a ballsy setlist like that time you played a quiet, mellow set during a metal festival in Europe. Challenging festival audiences = EPIC. Which reminds me : MEW is the best band I've ever seen open for NIN. Their set at Terminal 5 was very challenging indeed : they could have played their faster/heavier stuff to try to win over the crowd, but they didn't. That takes guts and I highly appreciate that. Been a HUGE fan of them for years.

Hi,

I SO agree about the setlist Ash512. But as you can imagine it all comes down to TR. He's the final arbiter. But I deeply love that ballsy setlist scenario. That festival in England at Knebworth was an insane experience, very exciting for us to play music that was overall so delicate. And ultimately, a triumph. But it could have gone either way, you know? We'll have to see what we can fit in within such a short time constraint.

As far as Mew, that was unbelievable. I was in the balcony watching and yes, they destroyed the place with their sophistication and dynamics, as well as the gorgeous visuals. I sure loved it too. It was, in my estimation, the best show they've done amongst the 7 or 8 times I've seen them.

Nice one kristi!

Trying to catch up here... Toronto was excellent once again, I was more into it than my previous Terminal 5 gig. It was fun watching NIN on a huge stage again, especially with such good seats (200s, front row, center).

My first festival experience. I found it to be remarkably interesting watching a bunch of different acts with radically different fanbases get together so well... More surprinsing even, was how respectful the audience were for all bands... which says a lot about NIN fans who probably composed over 80% of the crowd. Mew, MuteMath and NIN were the highlights for me. Pet Shop Boys were pretty entertaining too in a *** kinda way (surprising how 80's synthpop can sound this powerful when played that loud).

Trent was obviously sick (you could tell from his voice) but I didn't feel like any of the band members were tired... Actually they all looked in top shape... Man, Ilan is just relentless. I read about his cold that morning on Twitter and was really surprised to see him in full attack mode for the whole show.

Setlist wise, three of my absolute favourite songs were played: Somewhat Damaged (such a powerful opener), The day the world went away (the live version is probably the closest NIN has ever been to a post-rock crescendo, really powerful again) and of course, RUINER, which was the one last song out of my favourites that I hadn't seen before. That song made it fitting final show for me: I have seen everything I've ever wanted to see live. I can watch NIN leave this world with no regrets! Thanks JMJ...

Now, hearing that the Henry Fonda show might be re-scheduled, I'm actually thinking about flying to LA and catch that one final gig... We'll see.

Loved the shows in Chicago! What have you got planned after NIN? Hopefully you don't get sick like it seems people who attended the Aragon shows appear to be! Give Trent our best wishes for a speedy recovery. It's been tough trying to come down from the highs of those two shows, I think we all have a case of NINfluenza!

i ment it in the nicest way possible :P the show was verry high energy and honestly THE BEST ive seen you guys at. I ment it more in a after non stop touring kind of tierd lol. its sad to say thats the last NIN show ill see. but im glad it was so awesome, great choice on set list, the lighting was great. sounds was amazing. enjoy the last couple of shows justin, thanks for being the best bassist ive seen with NIN.

JMJ - Last night was beyond epic. 37 songs, I can't imagine how exhausting that must be. :bassist:

I just want to say it's been a pleasure getting to see you with NIN these last 12 months or so. Your dedication and skill really helped bring this band up to such a level - that I don't know if I'll ever see it topped. Between the LITS tour and last nights performance; I have witnessed both the most intense visual show, and the longest yet tightest single performance by a band.

While I can't say I was familiar with your work prior to you joining NIN, having taken the time to dig deeper into your back catalog - I've become a huge fan and can't wait to see where you head next.

It's so nice to see NIN take leave with such an amazing lineup, and with such a varied set. Definitely bowing out at the top of their game. Whenever TR gets working again, I really hope he keeps you around because you definitely add that perfect level of expertise and professionalism that a band like NIN really requires to deliver 110%.

Thanks again for everything, it's been an amazing ride. Now go enjoy some rest and relaxation. You deserve it ;)

I'm choked I only got to see you play once with Nine Inch Nails, but oh well.
I'm extremely happy that this tour was so extensively recorded. Only got to see you the one time, but I still watched videos from pretty much every show and have audio from a few as well.
Hands down you have been my favourite bassist to be with the band - thanks for adding so much to the show! I really hope I get to see you with another band in the near future.

Also, just watched a video of Piggy from last night. God damn.

Mr 600: Post-NIN, well gosh. Lots of bits and bobs. At the moment, without jinxing anything, I'll just say session work (starting Monday, in fact), songwriting, producing, and movie work. Things are still forming, so who knows what will actually be real or not. But I feel pleased and lucky that I can come off this 15-month long NIN run and still get some things happening without too much delay.

Soverntear: thanks much! High praise!

Wishtheend: I am so overwhelmed by your post. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. (sniff!) That means a lot to me.

Micahbell: Thank you!!! Glad to hear all that. Yes, plenty of video was captured on this run, for sure.

Best,
Justin

Happy new year Justin!

Some people who managed to grab the setlist at the Wiltern were surprised to see that The Great Below was featured but wasn't played. My personal guess is that it probably wasn't rehearsed enough at that point... Now that the tour is over and there are no more surprised to be spoilt, I was wondering if you'd agree to reveal some of the songs that were rehearsed with the band but ended up never being played live.

Some fan-favourites were never performed, like The Perfect Drug and And All That Could Have Been, but I remember Cortini mentioning that they had tried to play TPD back on the 2007 tour but couldn't pull it off. Were these songs ever rehearsed since LITS, or ever mentioned as possibilites?

Finally, when I met with the people at Moment Factory to collect bonus material for AVOTT, Pamela Rocks told me about a visual idea for LITS that was dropped that included really gorgeous japanese flower trees, but she couldn't remember which song it was for, although she was pretty positive it wasn't for any of the Ghosts tracks. Do you remember that idea and do you know what song it was originally planned for?

Cheers Justin!

Happy new year to you.

Correct!

Correct, it wasn't exactly rehearsed enough. I don't know if I can reveal the songs that hadn't been played, because I don't remember off the top. There were a bunch. I'd have to give it a think and look through my notes.

TPD was something TR was not interested. AATCHB was rehearsed and prepared. I felt it was pretty much ready to go.

That was an utterly beautiful scene. I don't remember what song it was for, but yes: it wasn't Ghosts, it was a "song" song. Damn, sorry I'm coming up short on all this. I'll think on it.

Hey JMJ,
I know that you probably won't remember this but I'll give it a shot. My friend and I went to the Wave Goodbye show in Kansas City, but not before being blindsided and having our car totaled, but by God we were going. Anyway, we became rather intoxicated and were pretty close to the stage. I was waving my arms at you like an *******, and you saw me and started to laugh, and while I was distracting you, your strap fell off and you had to make a miraculous recovery to continue the song. I did the same thing to Dave Navarro and he stared at us like he would kill us after the show, then we look back and he's laughing at us. Anyway, that's my highlight of that show for me. Just wondering if you remembered that.

Wow, that's fascinating. AATCHB is my personal favourite NIN track. Really curious to know how you guys arranged it and who played which instrument, since it's probably one of the most structurally complex NIN songs... I wonder if Trent decided against playing it either because he wasn't satisfied with the live arrangement or if he thought too few people would actually know the song... or perhaps a little bit of both?

Thanks again for your time Justin. Let us know if you remember anything else!
