I found this bass while I was just flipping through an online catalogue...and I can't decide whether I like it or hate it. Check it out

I don't plan on buying it, partly because I don't know where on earth the store is, but it's listed at around $550US, so its not too bad. Brand new as well. BTW I have NO idea how it plays, but considering the price, I reckon it could be a nice collector's item.
IMO, the design is just....not quite there, the colour balance is just off. Maybe if the body was just one solid color, like a one-tone natural wood, or even black, instead of the striped natural wood, then I would've been all over it

That would not happen in Japan. You would be VERY hard pressed to find anything coming out of Japan that is inexpensive or of poor quality.

+1 on the bass design, the look of the woods, and the neck-thru, but -100 on the excessive bling. Simple dots or blocks for me, thanks...

All of these brands seem to make sweet basses, but then ruin them with the inlays. I considered buying one just to paint over it. But alas, money is not in such an abundance anymore.

If the inlays don't bother you, I'd say try it out and let us know how it is.

I like the detail in the neck, but I hate the dragon stuff on the body. other than that, its a sexy bass

Good call there. Put a MIJ/CIJ against an MIA and they are comparable. Put a Grand Seiko against a Rolex Sub and they are damn comparable. If this baby was made in Japan, it should be comparable with the Alembic Dragons Breath bass of Stanley Clarke's.

I don't think the workmanship is very good really- there's a lot of black filler around those inlays. Kind of sloppy if you ask me.
