We Suck

OK you win But I could only do a partial song....My video set up uses alot of bytes for some reason.

Now this song is with a different drummer than we usually use and he supposedly has a lot more experience. But half way through the song he sped things up and I couldn't hold him back. SO I don't know.....

Feh!

I've sucked worse than that. It's been awhile but, I have.

I found the keyboards sense of time to be somewhat lacking. At least in relationship to what was going on around him.

IMO.

Yeah, not to mention the fact I've heard bands worse than you guys get ongoing gigs at places in the city doing ORIGINALS.

You guys aren't terrible, but you could definitely improve. Use this as a learning experience, and try for some gigs! You guys could get a few if you wanted, I'm sure!

Thanks for posting the vid, it takes a certain amount of guts to open yourself up for critique. It's not terrible, it's just not tight. The drums and keyboard are particularly tenative and sloppy at times. Also, this is one of those songs where the chord pattern doesn't change from verse to chorus, so the band needs to work harder to to differentiate those sections from each other.

Coincidentally, that happens to be the very same song that my band is covering on a voting website right now. If you like, see the link in my sig and click on Band 4 to hear our version. We're a 10-piece band with horns and a strong keyboardist, so it's an unfair comparison, but I just thought I'd mention it. But even our version isn't all that it could be. I hear things that I want to improve every time I listen to it.

I guess I'm saying, don't hang up that bass just yet! For me, the rehearsing and the learning is just as much fun as the performing.

Vandelay, I checked out your version. I thought it was pretty good...
...until the horns came in. I can't quite put my finger on it, but the horns sounded forced or something. Were they tracked separately and "cut and pasted" into the song? I don't know man... I love horns when they're tight with the music. Your horns sounded tight with each other, just not with the band. Just my honest opinion.

Thanks, I think you basically nailed it. They weren't cut and pasted, but the horn charts were written (by our sax player) while we were still learning the song, before the rhythm section had really settled into our groove. I agree that it fits a little awkwardly at times.

Wow you guys are nice. I guess we are our worst critics

The drums and keyboard are particularly tenative and sloppy at times. to it.

What's funny is the drummer in that vid is not our usual drummer but he is supposedly better and more experienced than the girl that usually sits there. And shortly after the second verse he must have hit the turbo switch and sped the song up about twofold.

As for the keyboardist he is usually the rock of the group. BUt I think he gets bored because he is used to doing alot of fill and the basslines before I came along. And he's the one that doesn't drink HAHAHA

Only I thought was almost bad was the keyboard timing.

It's not terrible, it's just not tight. The drums and keyboard are particularly tenative and sloppy at times.

Just echoing the above. The keys and the drums to a lesser extent sounded off.
