Weak Open E string with class D amp!!!

Speaker (and cab, and how it works in your room) matter a GREAT deal more than the amp head, for low frequency audible output.

In the sense that speakers actually have a hard time putting out as much audible output level down around 40 to 60 Hz as they do at 80 to 100 Hz (I'm picking numbers out of a hat here to explain my point... that's not some scientific debatable set of value examples...)

Trying a 700rb against class D amps with the same bass, cabinet, in the same location, would really be the only way to determine that class D is the issue. And I agree with the sentiments above, it’s almost definitely not the class of the power amp, but other factors.
How about the same preamp too? Each preamp is going to be differently voiced, affecting your comparison.

Think about it this way: the common thread is your bass. It only sounds good through one amp. Maybe it needs work? New strings? Just saying might not be the amps.

Are you using the same speaker cabinet with all of these amps? A different cabinet can have a huge effect on the sound.

like I said, I used fender rumble combos (40.100.200) and traynor sb110,112 and 115. Some Ampeg too.

When I used the 700rb I used a gk bro 115 cab. I used an ampeg pf115hlf with the pf500

I use a Class D power amp into a pair of Acme B2 2x10 three way speaker systems. Vertically aligned naturally! :)

They reproduce my Low B beautifully.

At a jam I used a Fender Rumble 350 combo. It filled the bar with bass and my Low B string was wonderfully present. :)
Um, the OP is talking about his E string, not his B string. ;) :D

On all of them, I found the E string a little weak (not as loud or thick as they other strings) especially on the open E.
Is this consistent all the way up the E string?

If it's JUST the open E, and not say 1st fret F, id look first at your nut, and/or strings.
So, you think it may be a negative F-Bomb?

Absolutely. I mean really, a double blind test with the power amp being the only difference would be ideal. But I doubt the OP is going to do that. I’m just trying to illustrate how weak of an argument it is to blame it on the type of power amp.

While reading all the posts, I realized that the only kit that didn't have a weak open E string was the GK cab and head. It was the only kit that wasn't directly on the floor. It had wheels. Could it be a floor coupling problem???

I hacve the same problem with my two basses. It is most noticeable with my pbass. It is les noticeable but still present with my Warwcik corvette.

I'd say that's more likely to be a 700rb preamp design side effect rather than power amp class issue. Class D power amps are perfectly fine and output as well at 20Hz as any other decent quality amp.

The preamp probably affects things much more, and as others have said, the GK preamp, and the settings you used on it, likely added some punch down there. If you take the line out from your 700RB and put it into the line in on any of the class D power amps, you'll find out if the difference is in the power amp (class D versus whatever class is in the GK, for example class AB maybe). I really doubt it is.

I will say though that the power amp in the 700RB is certainly a VERY good power amp, based on reputation and from what I've heard from y 1001RB and from what I've seen of the PSU and such.... you're comparing your class D amps against an excellent product.
