Wearing shorts on stage.

Not only do I wear shorts, I wear flip-flops. And some times I take off my flips and go bare foot. Damn them hippies!!!! :help:

But I bounce around so much, it might only 50 degrees and I'll be sweating like a pig in two minutes. Our singer is the only one who doesn't wear shorts but my legs are much better looking then his!!! :D

never had a gig that paid me to where pants!! No one is stupid, if it is a wedding or something you would dress nice, But these guys in bands that look like the revenge of the nerds on a bar stage is crazy...Make sure you DO NOT have white socks on with you khaki's...cant stand these kind of people...

I just think of shorts as casual attire and not really appropriate for most settings.
The beach? A Jimmy Buffet type gig? sure
on any other stage? not so much.

Pajamas? would you wear those?
Bathrobe (like the Big Lebowski)?
Flip Flops are to be worn in the shower at the gym.

You can wear a diaper like the guy from the Funkadelics, if that's what rings your bell.
but......
If you want me to treat you professionally and with with respect, dress like it!

again, just my view on the topic.

You are all wrong. If you want to be taken seriously as a musician then you can't wear anything on stage except for skin tight leather pants. If it's hot out, then suck it up or get a job as a parking attendent and you can wear those cute little kahki shorts. Shorts on stage? Seriously? No real musician would even consider such a thing.

One time I went to this show and the band hadn't even done their hair. I couldn't believe it. And one of them was wearing just a regular grey t-shirt like you would get at target or walmart. The music was obviously terrible but I probably don't even have to point that out.

Well, Jimmy broke me of the no shirt habit, but I always wear shorts during warm weather. Outdoor gig today. 90s with high humidity. It's a pool party so I am wearing trunks, tank top and sneakers.

Barefoot or flip-flop wearing on stage is just wrong. People that do it are the only ones who think it's cool. Trust me, everyone else thinks you look like a dufus.

"Now that I think about it, I'd rather see the band in shorts than wearing some stupid hat that so many think should be part of the bass players wardrobe.

There, I said it !!!!!
Those dumbass hipster hats (porkpie, fedora, etc.) don't make you look cool, they make you look like a Dork!
(man, it feels good to finally get that off my chest)"-QUOTE

Finally!! For today, you are my hero. What is up with that? It must be, "I can't afford a Fodera, so I'll just wear a fedora. Yeah, that's what I'll do, it'll be soo cool!"
Yeah, I wear a hat. It's one of a couple I've had for 10-15 years. A good ol' American baseball cap. I've wore 'em since I was 6 or 7 years old. And no, I'm not even close to goin' bald at 46, either.

Lol. +1

If Tom Araya of Slayer did it, everybody can do it. Even Abbath (i'd really like to see that :D )

The biggest sin I'm seeing here is the guitarist wearing a hockey jersey and shorts.
I don't believe in wearing a hockey jersey during the off-season, unless your team won the Cup that year.
Jerseys come off as soon as your team is out of the playoffs, and you can't put it on again until Draft day.
And you NEVER wear a hockey jersey WITH shorts!! It's exactly like wearing a sweater and shorts, you just DON'T DO IT!

As for shorts with a t-shirt, I see no problem with it. Punk/Metal shows nobody will care, especially if you have leg tattoos to show off. It's kind of common-place around here for a drummer to wear shorts, so why not for a Bassist too?

I'll assume this was sarcastic.

Shorts don't bother me at all. Its all the phony "I'm a musician so I have to 'look' like I'm a musician" crap that really peeves me. I used to live and play in Williamsburg part of Brooklyn, NY where the phony musician look was king. The funny thing is, the audience can see it right through the fakeness. It's true.

So go wear your fedora, your black leather, put gel in your mod haircut, carve out a soul patch, wear sunglasses on stage, connect your legs with chains zippered to your pants, wear a top hat, act all luny like a good musician is supposed to...but really....? Shorts are a no no? Gimme a break.

Like some others have mentioned. The gig dictates the attire. Rock show: yes shorts are fine. Outdoors in AZ: yes shorts are fine. Prom gig: no shorts.
