Madagascar is one of my favorite Weather Report pieces.
It is a soundscape that portrays it's exotic and lush vegetation and animal life.

But a curious point.

There is a section that is vaguely familiar.
Zawinul and Shorter double the line that repeats throughout the piece.
Where does this melody line come from?
A movie?

I think it's either "Oceans 11(Eee o Eleven)" or some tune from"West Side Story"
What say you?

Weather Report are such a great band that even today they sound so alive and fresh. I could listen to them all day.

Thread Drift: I was on tour with Naki Ataman a bazillion years ago, and the drummer was complaining that some exotic place where we'd just arrived was a toilet. (Okay, he didn't use the word "toilet" but rather something that rhymes with "fit-hole")

And Naki turns to this drummer and says "Anyone who thinks this place is a [fit-hole] has never been to Madagascar."
