website slow and not reacting

When i saw you recommandation about the dark theme, i've tested all versions. All was not working on the cell phone. So i cleaned the cache and didn't see any improvment.
Today, i've tried a last thing (which is certainly the first thing to try.. ): clean all navigation datas, cookies, historical, ect. And after that, TB came back to life. So I think my problem was not linked to theme version, but certainly to my cellphone chrome navigation datas..
All is good now and i've tried to change themes on the cell phone and all theme are working well.
Thanks Paul.

I was having performance issue with the site since the update. I've been using Chrome, I've just switched to Zen (which is based or Firefox) and it works like a dream.

Zen is an awesome browser BTW! (no affiliation at all!)

Hello,

the site is often not reacting and is very slow no matter the device, no matter the browser...
Every other website is working fine for me, so it seems to be a talkbass issue. Anyone else experiencing this?

Cheers
I have exactly the same problem. Frustrating. WiFi on PC then on my mobile as well.

I guess it helps me spend less time browsing the classifieds and buying, so I guess that's a good thing.

I've been having some problems with sluggish response too. I think I know why.

First, context: I'm using Firefox on Linux, it's set to clear cookies and cache each time it exits. My internet access is a cellphone wifi hotspot. I'm at the fringes of the service area, so bandwidth isn't great. Yeah, I live in the boonies.

I'm pretty sure that the problem is that the homepage (https://www.talkbass.com) loads multiple large images from the classifieds. On a low-bandwidth connection, this can take quite a while. This issue is easy to reproduce consistently.

If I start by loading something other than the home page (https://www.talkbass.com/forums/-/list is a favorite), the page loads in a few seconds. If I then go to the home page, it takes a long time to load.

Just for example, this morning I started with the forums list link, which loaded quickly. I logged in, which also happened quickly. Viewing the browser cache (about:cache) showed that there was about 1.2 MB used.

Then, loading the home page took a noticeably long time. When it was done, the cache had about 37 MB.

Clicking the "list cache entries" link and scrolling down, there were a number of multi-megabyte items, flagged "expired immediately". These appear to be images related to the classifieds.

On past occasions, I've seen this initial load over 60 MB. If my network connection is being sluggish (which it is sometimes) this can take minutes to load.

@paul - did you see this^^^? I think it's a plausible explanation for why some people sometimes see very slow load times.

Why is the home page loading a lot of large images that aren't even displayed? And flagging them as "expire immediately", ensuring that they will have to be reloaded every session?
