Wedding changed venues

Yeah that's getting up toward 100 miles. At LEAST a higher rate. Whatever works out to $100 per person more should cover it. Then each band member can decide what he/she wants to do regarding getting a room, splitting a room, driving home, etc.

That’s what we’re going to ask for. An extra $100 each. It’s an extra 2 hours’ drive, which is beyond my comfortable limit in the early morning. We might be able to organise a larger vehicle so our gear and personnel can fit in fewer vehicles.

I’m going to sit down with our singer, who is great at booking gigs, and sort out a little bit of the “management” side of it for future gigs. Contracts (not that they are easily enforceable), deposits, contingencies etc.

They should expect extra costs. I am sure the photographer, florist, caterer, etc will all have submitted an increased cost for their services. $100/person is reasonable. Maybe $150/ea if you have to sleep over. (and storing gear in your car is never without much risk!) Now your band has to assume responsibility to make it there, no issues. No late. No person cancels bc they get sick. Have backups to fill in for any position if you need. This is "the most important day in a bride's life", or something like that - and they are paying crazy money for a 1 day celebration - so make sure you don't ruin it for them!

And that's why wedding bands get paid big bucks. You miss a bar gig, no one cares. Bar owner can even find another band on short notice. You cancel last minute on a wedding? Be prepared for a potential lawsuit! (hence the contract)

Btw - in your contract, dont forget to include a meal! Lots of times the caterer will prepare "help dishes" - which instead of the $100/plate prime rib, would instead be a sandwich and whatnot. But at least its a meal - you dont have to leave and find food.

Oh, and NO NOT TAKE ANOTHER WEDDING GIG UNTIL YOU DRAW UP A CONTRACT THAT COVERS THESE KINDS OF SITUATIONS. PERIOD!!!!!
That'd be death in Australia. Aussies would take a contract as a direct insult to their integrity. It's an awful malaise of Australian society. They will take whatever you don't say and start a fight over it! To give you an example:
Bruce [in pub, to no one in particular]: You know what? In my opinion, Mike Tyson is the best boxer the world has ever seen.
Bluey [to his mate, Wozza]: Hey, Wozzer! Did you hear that? He just called Muhammad Ali a bum!
[Melee].

Weddings typically pull the pin at midnight. Teardown plus travel doesn't get you home before 2am at the earliest, more like 3am.

Charge what like ,with allowance for run on. Motel it to be safe.
Around here they stop at 11

I like your nicknames there. I'd be OK with 'Wozza.' : D
