Double Bass Weich E with Mittels?

Solos are great to bow on though you have to change your approach. Especially the solo A tuned to G. Youll choke it very easily if youre used to pulling a grunty orchestral sound.

On a side note, when playing jazz/pizz I find the solos amplify really well, through a full circle in my case. The note is softer on the attack compared to mittels. Though for the same reasons, youll lose acoustic volume.

No free lunch hey.

Well, I tried a Weich E with the other Mittels and didn't really care for it, feels too mushy next to the others. Just for some string voodoo -- I put the Mittel E back on and it seems to be responding somewhat better now. The only difference I can identify is that before the E was wound on at a slight angle away from the peg box, now the string is pretty much straight and touching the edge of the box. Could that be a factor?

I was once told that you shouldn't wind on the strings so the windings are jammed against inside of the box -- the E can be a little difficult to get right though.

That's good advice Bobby - the windings can act like a wedge and split the cheeks off the pegbox.

Have you tried swapping the peg assignments ie A string on the E peg and vice versa?
Many basses respond well to this - I like to do it just to confuse the players! :D

I feel that the flexocor 92's had a small sort of E that was very response to my memory - I only played it for 9 months... I think it's a good idea to try the mittels with a weich E. It might make everything else sound really good. I've played on smaller strings and liked it so I wonder what the mittels do to the E as well. There's the whole set synergy apsect as well...
